Your Modern Floor - Flooring Ideas And Tips For Your Next Remodel

By Jerry Watkins

The easy part is deciding to remodel your home. Deciding on flooring ideas if the hard part. In the last several decades floor covering choices have been expanded.

Most people think of linoleum as only for the kitchen or bath floors. This wasn't a half bad idea. Many will mixup the concepts of vinyl and linoleum. The Real version of linoleum has been around for nearly two centuries. If a classic look if what you are going for linoleum is perfect for you. The same is true for people who are looking for environmentally friendly flooring ideas. The reason for this is because trees are not a part of linoleum. Linseed oil makes up a large portion of linoleum. Sometimes it will contain mineral pigments. If you are trying to give your home a more artistic touch you may want to consider ceramic tile.

Another great flooring idea is cork. This is a good choice for those that are looking for an environmentally friendly flooring option. No trees are harvested to create cork because it is made from hard pressed tree bark. It has also been proven that this type of flooring helps regulate your home's temperature. If you stand all day at your job, this type of flooring will be beneficial because it has more give to it. Cork also works well as a decorative flooring. Stains and dyes work well on cork because it is rather absorbent.

There are a few approaches to your flooring that you can take. A traditional approach is the most common route people choose. This is almost always hardwood flooring (or something that looks like it). This is a good way to give your home a classic feel. Generally, those that like older homes and antiques also prefer hardwood flooring. Hardwood floors give a home a traditional feel. Linoleum, depending on the type of home you have can also be considered "traditional" since it was very popular in suburban homes around the early to mid twentieth century.

Making the decision of which flooring to go with can be a challenge. You now have many choices to think about. There are just about as many choices in flooring as there are in shoes!

Finding new flooring options is a difficult process. It is hard to know what kind of look you want to achieve without first doing some research. Be sure to choose a flooring option that works with ;your lifestyle and your ambitions for your home. The more restrictions you put on your goals for your flooring, such as being environmentally friendly, the fewer choices you will have. Your number of choices will also be limited by the size of your budget. Figure out what you need and what you can afford and then go from there.
