How to Decorate Your Home On The Cheap

By Diego Miranda

Since when does home decorating have to cost a ton of money? Where is the rule that says decorating can only be done with original artwork? When decorating your home, there is no law that says that you need to use one (and only one) theme. To create layers of character why not use more than one color scheme or theme? A beautiful home can be created without having a big budget. You don't need to empty your bank account to create a home that is beautiful and inviting. There is no longer a need to hire a professional to help you make sure your home is beautiful. Here is some advice for people who want beautiful homes but don't want to spend a lot of money to make them that way.

Start small and try not to go overboard. When you start decorating, start with a few pieces that you really like and then build the rest of your scheme around them. Save your cash for the decorative items you truly love instead of just trying to fill the space as quickly as possible.

Don't be scared to check the dumpster! Do you live somewhere that sees a lot of people moving to and from it? Wander through on a regular basis. Moving van space is limited and many people will simply start throwing things away when they realize that the moving van has filled up. It might seem unrealistic but it is possible to create a decorating scheme and to furnish your home using only "found" things. Don't take anything you find on a curbside without making sure that you are allowed to do so. Quickly checking with the homeowners is all you need to do.

Stock photo websites and websites like Flickr are great for finding photos that you can print and use for decoration. Using the photos you find on a site like Flickr is easy-most are uploaded with the intent that they will be used-simply save them and print them with your own desktop printer or have them professionally printed at a print shop. You could fill your home with beautiful photographs for little more than the cost of paper and ink. This is also an option for the photos you take yourself. There's a ton of affordable and free photo editing software that you can use to touch up your own photos so you can have them printed. For not very much money you can have fun and decorate your home!

If you can keep yourself from getting carried away, you shouldn't have any problems. Price isn't everything-inexpensive items are just as good as expensive items. Don't let yourself get carried away at art galleries or exhibitions. Remember to plan around the decorations you already have when you begin your project. Your home is probably already filled with items you love but that you've stopped seeing. Be creative! If you have an old watering pot you can turn it into a centerpiece! Take your time to consider your options and then ask yourself "is there a cheaper way to get the same effect?"
