Roman Blinds as Stylish Alternative

By John Stabler

Some of the most elegant window treatments around are Roman shades or blinds. These blinds, which were popular years ago, are now being featured as a part of modern home designs. Roman blinds are constructed from an assortment of fabrics and are an ideal option to conventional roller blinds. These multipurpose blinds provide privacy, insulation and class. There are several reasons why these blinds are more versatile than conventional blinds.

A Roman blind is an attractive window blind to use if you to highlight a decorative window frame. Nonetheless, they can be installed in any bedroom, bathroom or hallway adding neatness and elegance to any simple window in it. They can be suitable for any window, even those which have limited space for rods outside of the window recess. They can be fitted inside or across the front of the window recess and are just as effective when used as a standalone window treatment or when fitted with curtains, top treatments or pelmets which gives the window a defined depth and sense of grandeur.

Functionality - In addition to being stylish alternatives to other types of blinds, Roman-styled blinds offer a choice of two convenient functional features to raise and lower them. A traditional "pull-cord" operation system, fitted to cleats installed in walls or window frames, is the first. The second is a more complex, luxury system that controls the position of the slats. The slats, in turn, are threaded by horizontal rods. The system is based on the 'sidewinder' principle which helps the slats to form flat panels when the blind is let down. When raised, the slats pleat evenly in horizontal folds, one above the other in straight, elegant-looking lines.

As a stylish window dressing, Roman blinds are great alternatives to curtains, giving a sophisticated uncluttered feel.Installing a valence over it can make a casual window covering standout, adding designer and elegant look. They can include blackout linings, too.

So that they can be handled easily, Roman blinds are generally constructed from light-weight materials and fabrics. These blinds are available in an array of colors, patterns, textures, floral motifs and striped designs. Customized Roman blinds are the latest, trendy way to beautify any window in a home.
