Gardening Tools You'll Dream About

By Will Miles

Pretty much every adult has at least one moment of "I would really like to have my own garden!" One person might think that growing his own vegetables is a good idea. Perhaps someone dreams of creating a lush rose garden. It doesn't matter what you want to grow or why you want to grow it; the important thing is finding the right tools to help you grow your garden. Bare hands and brute strength are just about all that are usually needed for most gardening tasks. In order to save time and save your body (gardening can be hard on it), you should use gardening tools. Here are some of the gardening tools that you can use to help you.

The garden spade is a very useful tool especially when you are growing smaller plants in your garden. Spades are fantastic for digging up or uprooting weeds. Spades are also good for helping you clear things away from your plants without damaging their bases. Seed planting is also easier with a spade. While you probably won't put the spade to use every single day that you work in your garden, the days when you have intricate work to do around your plants will make you glad that you have your spade on hand. The spade is a versatile tool that can help with a variety of gardening tasks; it saves you time and energy! A garden cart is a good idea for people who are going to do a lot of hauling of things or who have large garden plots. Everything from dirt and debris to garden tools and larger items can be hauled in a garden cart. For people who do composting the garden cart can be used to haul compost out to their garden plots. The garden cart is most often used to transport large piles of dirt to and from a garden plot. For the most part, a garden cart is used to move things from point A to point B. If you are stuck you can use a wheelbarrow to do the same job.

You need a big rake. Your garden rake will work well in small garden patches. For bigger plots of land, however, a rake is a great gardening tool to have on hand. Rakes are for more than ridding your yard of tree leaves. Use your big rake to help smooth the soil and increase the oxygen flow to the places you want to plant your seeds. Use the flat side of your rake to smooth out the top layer of dirt in your garden. Leaf rakes are typically plastic. A garden rake, on the other hand, is usually made out of metal (steel).

If you are going to do ground work when you garden, you will need to have a shovel. A long handled shovel is very important for gardeners to have nearby especially if they plan on growing large gardens. A shovel is perfect for scooping up and moving dirt short distances. These results will be much nicer than they would be if you did this by hand. Transporting large quantities of earth, dirt and other things is much harder to do without a shovel. Using a long handled shovel saves you lots of time and work while you put your garden together.

Figuring out which gardening tools you need can take some time. As a new gardener you are going to want to buy everything the sales person offers you. Don't get duped or give in to temptation: start small and then add tools as you find uses for them. This will save you time, money and space in your garage or gardening shed. Eventually you will understand exactly which gardening tools do what and you'll know what to use for your various gardening tasks.
