Hose Reels- Evaluating Your Needs

By Bobby Cisco

Lots of people have been able to live without hose reels. After all, it can't be too hard to manually keep a hose after using it. You can just wind it over a faucet or shove it in a storage cabinet. Sometimes though, homeowners can get lazy. More often than not, hoses can be left strewn over garden grass or pavements. Aside from being tripping hazards, hoses left around can also easily get damaged.

Hoses are unquestionably very useful. Reels are very important especially in cleaning your garden or any parts of your property. The task of buying reels is never simple though. The many range to select from is the reason why. But if you are able to determine and weigh your needs and preferences properly, then you will be able to find the right one.

One particular need to look into is the size or extent of your outside property. You need to determine how big or small the size of your property is. This enables you to think about the limits to set in the hose you are to buy. For small property spaces, wall mounts are ideal. But for huge properties, portable reels cart types are just the thing since you can transport it anywhere on your area.

Another consideration is the regularity of hose use. It is either you use the hose for long hours or for merely just a few minutes in a week. So, if you were not a frequent user, then the ordinary resin reel type would be fine. But if you are not, and will tend to be using it longer, then the steel frame reel type is most suitable.

Choices of hose reels would also depend on the kind of work to be performed. Reels needed for gardening would of course have to be specifically made for water hoses. Moreover, a cart type gardening hose reel should have large back wheels to make movement over mud, gravel and other surface types easier. If you need a hose for shed work, a reel with equally sized wheels can work just right.

Another point to consider is the availability of features. The most obvious main feature to check is the cranking mechanism. Old reels have manual cranks that have to be turned by users to reel in hoses. More recent models however have automatic reels. Depending on the type of reel that you buy you may have to just walk a hose back to the reel or crank the handle once to pull in a hose.

Financial aspect is another vital point to ponder on. Plastic reel types and those that can be maneuvered manually are the most inexpensive. But before you settle for them, make sure that they are suitable for your needs and preferences.

There is a diverse shapes and sizes for hose reels. If you are meaning to get the perfect one for you, then you must determine first how it fits your needs and requirements.
