The Chronicle Of The Maytag Stackable Laundry Appliance

By Kerry Bravais

Over one hundred years ago the Maytag Washing Machine Company was started up by a man named Frederick Maytag. It lost the latter part of its moniker in 1925, instead becoming just simply known as Maytag. Soon thereafter Maytag was asked by the U.S. government to begin manufacturing military equipment for the great war. They quickly returned to their specialty in appliances after the war.

In contrast to what is commonly believed, their first products were not automatic washers but instead a combination of manual and machine washing. The first automatic washing appliance debuted in 1949. Maytag at that time also started making other home kitchen appliances. Their popular product includes the Superstack Maytag stackable washer dryer.

Buying washers and dryers could be a little demanding for those who are dwelling in small homes, condominium or apartment units. For starters, home equipment just like washers and dryers are too big for modest living areas to allow for. Another reason is that washers and dryers, being bulky appliances are not actually condo and apartment friendly considering that they require so much space. Little homes on the other hand, ordinarily lack gas vents or exhausts which clothes dryers will need.

Due to this need by little homes, condo and apartment owners, Maytag has formulated specially designed appliances to fit into small areas in little houses, apartments or condominium units. These appliances usually take up not much square footage that makes them easy to store under shelves, inside cabinets, small basements and also garages. Furthermore, many of the new appliances do not even require exhaust tubing to vent out the warm, damp air released from drying a load of clothes.

The stackable washer dryer is one where the dryer is positioned atop the washer so that the two items are vertically arranged. Rather than requiring two spaces for both home appliances, you'd be merely making use of one if you opt for stackable washers and dryers. The drawback to utilizing stackables is that dryers need to be put high above the floor that makes it a little difficult to reach and use.

The Maytag Superstack consists of a dryer stacked on top of a washer. The capacity of the washer is 2.6 cubic feet while the dryer is 5.9 cubic feet. The washer has 9 cycles whereas the dryer has 6 cycles. Controls for the dryer are mounted on the top row of the dryer making it somewhat hard to reach. The Maytag stackable washer dryer comes in both an electric version and a gas version. The gas version requires a gas line but makes it more economical to dry clothes.
