Helpful Hints About Lawn Care

By Kay Magnolia

One great thing about owning a home is being able to have and take care of a lawn. Most homeowners feel that their lawns are a main focal point of the house. In the back yard children can play, families can hold barbeques or throw parties. Some have even held wedding receptions in their back yards. And, of course, the front yard is the first impression visitors get of your home. Knowing how important yards can be, here are a few tips on lawn care.

One of the things your lawn will thank you for is properly fertilizing it. This should not be entered in to willy-nilly. You will want to determine your grass type and choose your fertilizer accordingly.

For as long as lawns have been in existence, weeds have tested the patience of the most expert yard caregivers. Dandelions, crabgrass and quackgrass, among other banes, seem to have a supernatural ability to make their presence known. If embarking on a de-weeding strategy, be sure you do not overuse chemical weed killers. They can threaten your plants and even leave patches.

Grass aerators can offer benefits to lawns. An aerator helps in allowing water and nutrients to get to the roots of the grass. This benefits not only grass but also the soil.

One thing that you do not want to do is mow the grass while it is wet. Not only can this ruin your mower, it can also wreak havoc on grass. Wet grass makes diseases spread more easily. Furthermore, you could compact the soil which may prevent grass from getting nutrients.

Maintaining a healthy lawn requires time, expense, and energy. But if you factor in the advantages of having a vibrant yard, it will be well worth your trouble. Every time you are home you will be reminded of how all your efforts have paid off.
