Expanded Eating of Organic Foods

By Vanessa Summer

Increase In Organic Food Sales Expands Significantly

During the last fifteen years, organic products have sold enough to almost be considered mainstream. In the early part of the 1990's, almost all organic food could exclusively be found in chic grocery stores but today you can find them in any supermarket. Not simply have organic products become more accessible, but with more people buying them, they have also turned out to be more affordable. As concerns for our environment and well being have increased, we've become more aware of organic foods and their benefits.

This heightened awareness brings about larger demand which translates into increased production of organic foods. Organic products will probably continue to become popular as they become more obtainable and production grows. Natural and organic product sales grew at an extraordinary 20% each year during the 1990's until they hit $9 billion in the beginning of the 21st century. At this time, about 70% of US buyers purchase organic food eventually during the year.

Everything indicates that organic food cultivation will continue to develop, which is great for our well-being and our environment. Not that long ago it was actually common for most people to have no idea what organic food was. Today, however, people understand that organic food means that it has been grown without any special chemicals or hormones. Producing organic foods does not simply suggest growing without man-made intervention, but it also means growing it the way nature intended. It won't matter if this is done in your backyard garden, or is done on a larger scale by the organic farmer.

Wholesome soil is an integral part of organic food production due to the fact it can produce healthy plants that can resist disease and pests without chemicals. Because the science of natural soil improvement continues to expand, organic farmers are getting to be less centered on chemicals to treat plants than regular farmers. Organic farmers are seeking long-term success for their crops while regular farmers only look for the quick-fix of chemicals. When you develop crops organically, it can be accomplished just about anywhere. Furthermore standard method of using chemicals, once it has been contaminated, there is a period that it cannot be used for anything else. The local water sources are never toxified with synthetics, by the organic gardeners.

Simply because growing organically is safe and healthy, many farmers who live on their farms are motivated to go with this method. Through cultivating crops without chemicals, farmers are creating a sustainable environment that will have a positive effect on the world at large.
