Knowing And Applying Irrigation In Woburn

By Bethany Reeves

Irrigation Woburn in Massachusetts is the scientific process of applying artificial and natural water to the soil. It is basically used to aid the growth of plants, agricultural crops, maintaining the shape of vegetation and landscapes which are considered to be disturbed during dry seasons and inadequate rainfall. In addition, a good watering system helps to prevent the increase of weed growth and serves as a shield against frost, and soil consolidation. It simply assures that your crops and plants are supplied with enough water.

There are many types of artificial watering methods. One of these techniques is surface irrigation or also known as flooding. It is the most common way of irrigating vegetation and agricultural lands. Water moves by the aid of the gravity to wet the land surface and infiltrate into the soil. This is usually used in rice paddies where its purpose is to control the water level in each field. The water levels are controlled by dikes or sometimes the water is lifted or pumped by animal or human power to the surface of the land.

Localized irrigation system evenly distributes water throughout the garden or field using low pressure piping system. It waters all the adjacent plants through the specialized pipes. Another method is drip or dropping which is the most popular method because of its low cost but very efficient. The system only uses sprays and sprinklers that waters all plants and underneath the soil is an advanced water system that delivers water to the roots of the plants drop by drop.

Fourth is sub-irrigation which is commonly used in commercial greenhouses especially made for potted plants. Water is delivered underneath through a pumping system, absorbed upwards to the plants, and the remaining water is collected for recycling. However sub-irrigation or seepage is an expensive both in equipment and management. But the benefits are too many such that it conserves water, nutrients, and labor through automation.

Center pivot method of irrigation works through a series of sprinklers designed in a galvanized steel pipes to water plants and crops. It is mechanically powered by water as it moves in circular actions to sprinkle the surrounding plants.

Knowing the different techniques does not exclude the use of grey water which is basically collecting and recycling natural water to irrigate your garden. It saves a lot of money, eco-friendly, keeps your plants healthy and green and lastly it conserves great amount of water.

You can be practical by digging channels and adopting systematic landscaping to stimulate watering system in your garden to save both money and energy. Collecting rain water, digging a well, use shower water and other household water left overs are also some ways to conserve water.

Also consider the kind of plants and crops planted in your field or garden. This factor will determine what kind of system is best suited in watering your plants and agricultural crops. Never forget the importance of irrigation Woburn in Massachusetts that will be always there to guide and help you maintain your garden and fields and feed your eyes with so much bounty and beautiful green scenery.
