Know How To Grind Coffee Beans

By Bernard Bowers

Air is the enemy of all coffee drinkers. The reason is that once exposed to air, coffee will lose its flavor. That is why you will notice that instant coffee on sale are very carefully sealed by the manufacturers in order to preserve its taste and aroma which will fade once the container is opened. The more discriminating coffee lover will settle for nothing less than freshly ground coffee. But do you know how to grind your coffee beans properly?

Do you know that if you grind coffee beans differently you will get different kinds of coffee from the same coffee beans? So you'll need to learn to use your coffee grinder properly if you want to make the freshest best tasting coffee possible.

Coarsely grinded coffee beans are best brewed in a percolator or the French Press. You can do that by tapping the grind button for a second or two each time, and repeating the process until you are finished. The goal is to break the beans up so that they look like tiny pieces of coffee bean. If they look like a powder, then you need to slowly back away from the coffee grinder and start again. Remember to tap the button and not hold it down.

If you have an automatic drip coffee maker, then you grind your coffee beans medium size. Picture the grinds that you'd find in a can of supermarket coffee. What you will see is what medium grinds look like. A good example would be brown sand that you see on the beaches. Brown sand is a perfect example of coarsely grinded coffee beans, assuming of course that you have been to the beach at some time. In this instance, you hold the grind button a little longer than you would in grinding coarse coffee. You do not want a fine powder if you're going to use an automatic coffee maker.

Finally if you're using an espresso maker, you want those fine powdery grinds that you've been trying to avoid when making coarse and medium grinds. So grind away until your heart is content.

Nothing beats drinking a freshly ground coffee with its fresh taste and the aroma that can be smelled a mile away. You can prepare your freshly grinded coffee according to your taste. Once you are able to grind coffee beans perfectly, then you can proclaim yourself as a coffee connoisseur.
