A Fast Guide On How To Make Gift Baskets

By Greg Bichers

Made from anything and for any occasion, gift baskets are popular choices for many today. You can find a variety of stores and online shops that will custom make a gift basket for you. However, some people choose the homemade route instead. They are more personal and for those on a budget, more affordable. Making one can actually be quite fun and easier to do than many may think.

If you decide to make one yourself, you need to have a theme in mind before you start. Consider the person you are giving it to, do they have hobbies, favorite items, or a certain personality that you can fit into the theme? You can also choose a holiday or a special occasion theme if the basket will be used as a gift during that time. One example that can give you an idea on themes is a thank you gift, filling a basket with all the favorite bath items of a close friend would surely bring a smile to their face.

Just because it is called a gift basket doesn't mean that it has to be a basket. You can use almost anything for the same purpose. Consider what the theme is and go from there. Kitchen items would go perfectly in a mixing bowl or casserole dish. Gardening items would fit nicely in a pail. You could use a gift box also in place of a basket. You only need to be sure that it will hold everything and when decorated, goes with the theme.

Some of the fun begins with choosing the right items to fill your container with. Remember, this does not have to be full of expensive things for it to be great. Choose a variety of things that suit the theme and the person receiving it. Some creative people choose to make their own items, either crafts or baked goods to fill it with.

You will want to prepare whatever container you are using before you fill it. Some people like to line them with kitchen towels, tissues paper, or tulle. If the container you are using is deep, you may want to add some crumpled tissue paper to the bottom so things are visible and not sunk inside.

When you fill it, you want it to be attractive and appealing, not a sloppy mess with stuff just thrown in. Start with tall items, fit them so that they are in the middle, and then surround them by the smaller items. Alternatively, if you have one large item, set it at an angle towards one side and then place the smaller things around it. You may need some filler items or even tissue paper to hold things into place if they move around a lot.

To finish the basket, you have different option on decorating and wrapping it. Some like to wrap the basket in cellophane so that the items do not fall out. To do this, place the container on a large piece of cellophane and gather the paper up and around it. Then tie the cellophane with a ribbon or bow. You could also just place a bit bow on the handle of a basket or even decorate the basket with mini flowers or other miniature items glued onto it.

You can make gift baskets for a number of occasions in a variety of ways and they are much more affordable than buying one. Having a theme in mind and the reason behind the gift makes it easier to decide how you will decorate it. The best thing about these is how personal they are for the person that receives them.
