Protecting Your Garden From Hail

By Cory Morris

It's a delight for many people to create and maintain a garden, but that can all end in one brief moment from the weather. The fluctuations in the weather conditions are going to happen without notice and that causes grief for many gardeners. Without the weather, our planet would be a rather desolate place, for the reason that rain, and other forms of moisture is needed as much as the sunshine.

When you think about it, if there is no rain, you would be limited to what you can grow. However, your garden could go all up in smoke by way of a single night of a raging hailstorm. Any time it rains at first, you don't have to worry too much about watering your plants yourself. You may delight in the natural water falling from the sky until you notice it starting to turn to ice. It's a sensation of dread, especially if you have gone through having your garden destroyed by a ten minute hailstorm.

The smartest thing you can do is to protect your plants from a potential storm. The first option is to put together a wire mesh screen that you can implement to cover the garden when it rains. The water out of the rain is going to drip through but once it converts to hail, the screen will protect the plants. Nevertheless, it is usually expensive to set up and it is not easy to build. If your garden hasn't been damaged by hail yet, you may want to set up something like this if possible.

If your backyard garden has already been wiped out, you might want to find a way to help recover your plants. You are not able to really do much except to be patient and to take extreme care with the surviving plants. It will be tough to tell, if your plants can survive once they have been damaged so badly by the hail. In case you expect additional inclement weather, then you need to keep them covered and protected from the elements. Before you actually begin thinking about your garden, you probably know how frequent hail storms are in your area. For this reason, you ought to have an emergency plan to protect your plants. Regardless of whether it seldom occurs, you should have plans set up.

All it takes is a single hailstorm to destroy all the effort you put in. You need to take preemptive action so that the worst can be avoided. You toiled very hard on your garden, so you should not see that work end up being for nothing.
