Three Hints To Purchase The Ideal Hedge Trimmer

By Alison Graham

The length of the blades on a particular model of petrol hedge trimmer is an important factor to take into consideration when buying. By taking time to really think through what you will be using your hedge trimmer will save you from buying something that does not do the job you want it to.

Basically, hedge trimmer blades can be categorised into one of three groups.

1. The type of blade action. Will you be using your hedge trimmer for extended periods of time? By choosing a model with double action blades, that is blades that move in opposite directions, you will eliminate many of the operator problems such as aching back and shoulders and fatigue when using the machine for prolonged periods of time.

2. Whilst no hedge trimmer, even the most powerful petrol hedge trimmer, is designed to be used as a chain saw, if you have a lot of twiggy branches to cut, you will need a more powerful model with wider teeth blades. If on the other hand, you keep your hedges regularly trimmed so that they never get time to grow thick, twiggy growth between cuts, you will be able to use a less powerful narrow teeth blades model which will give you a fine finish on your well-manicured hedges.

3. Consider how much time you are able to spend cutting your hedges and how much cutting you are going to have to do. More hedge can be cut in one pass if you choose a model with longer blades. It is worth remembering though that this extra efficiency comes at a cost and longer blade machines are more difficult to use and heavier to operate. A hedge trimmer with really long blades can be very difficult to work with if you have tricky shaping work to do on your hedge.

If you take these three points into consideration, you will end up with the right tool for the work you need to get done in your garden.
