Hydroponics and Marijuana

By Castulo Zane

You can produce cannabis a lot of ways- hydroponically, aeroponically or in soil. You will find advantages and disadvantages to each method. Hydroponics is an idea that may occur to most new growers pretty soon inside the approach because it is extremely frequent.

Hydroponic marijuana cultivation functions by supporting the plant in some type of medium and then water is poured over the root system. The water is manipulated to include a particular mix of chemicals. PH can also be managed, as is oxygen content.

You need something to support the plant to make the system work. You can use what you want but I recommend hydroton. It is light and easy to use, and lets the water drain through easily. You can buy it online quite easily through Amazon.

You also need something to hold the medium. You want a pot or similar container that will hold enough hydroton to support the plant, but that won't restrict the water solution flow. A regular plant pot won't work, but there are modified plant pots that are full of small holes that restrict the hydroton but allow water flow.

This combo, the plant, pot and hydroton, need to go somewhere. The best solution is to have them in yet another container of some sort that is watertight and can handle the addition of some plumbing fixtures. The solution goes into the to, runs over the plant, through the hydroton and pot, and into the container.

You also need a container to hold the solution. Think of this as a reservoir. It will have a pump in it that will circulate the solution through the top of the system, over the plant, through the pot and hydroton, into the container holding that combo, and then back to the reservoir. Bigger systems need bigger reservoirs - smaller systems can use smaller ones.

You can now connect everything. The slution reservoir gets a pump in it. That pumps solution to the plant pots and over the plants. Gravity drains it through the root system and out of the plant pot, into the combo holding container. From there it exits at the bottom through a plumbing fitting and makes its way back to the reservoir, usually by gravity.

Altogether you need the containers, hydroton, hose, plumbing fixtures and a pump. You also need electricity to power the pump. Put them together in a place where a leak won't ruin everything - basements or outside work well. Build it well enough to function on its own without plugging up or breaking down or leaking.

It isn't hard. It's been done a million times by others. Size, location, complexity - there is lots of room for inventiveness. Have fun with it.

However, it does require thought and good work. It needs more monitoring in the beginning, because of the leak and blockage danger. It's harder than dirt in that respect. Still, you can really control the inputs and avoid a lot of soil problems.

Hydroponics is one of the most effective ways to cultivate cannabis. The yields will blow you away. The supplies required are easy to get and are legal. It's widespread adoption by commercial growers proves its effectiveness.
