Add A Special Touch With Updated Window Treatments

By John Stabler

Attractive window treatments may add an ideal finishing touch to practically any room in your home. Whether you choose to use your existing window hardware or update the look altogether, you may find a variety of complimentary curtains, drapes, and the like. As a quick and affordable way to make a noticeable style update, changing your window treatments may be a great choice.

Choosing the most appropriate window treatments may depend upon several important factors. Depending upon the room that you are intending to update, the amount of privacy you have may be a primary factor. If this is the case, then blinds or panels placed on a double curtain rod may work well. Conversely, if letting in as much light as possible is your main concern, then using a light, sheer fabric at your window may an optimal choice.

For more formal areas of your home, using a mixture of light sheers and heavier drapery on a double curtain rod may work best for a number of reasons. Having both sheers and drapes at your windows may allow you to open the drapes to let in light when desired. If you select to use insulated drapery, they may work to retain warm air, and at the same time reduce or eliminate cold, drafty air from coming into your home.

The size of the windows is also very important. For long tall windows spanning the floor to ceiling, lengthy curtains will extenuate the high ceiling. For a small wide kitchen window, consider a light dollied top curtain and herb plants to enjoy the natural light.

Whatever the space or style of the home, new window treatments can update, modernize and completely change the look of a home for a relatively small amount of money. You can save even more money by going to fabric stores rather than departments stores. Or get creative and use fabric remnants from a past projects to create a whole new look for all your guests to enjoy!
