The best way to create great flower arrangements

By Tomas Wolsey

Flowers have existed as part of nature since time began, tempting insects and birds within their depths with their colours and fragrance. Pollination is the name of the game within the environment, but in the domesticated world the florists flower delivery van signifies gifts from loved ones. The giving and receiving of bouquets is a time honoured tradition that still instils feelings of worth for the receiver.

Flower arranging is an art, one that florists are highly skilled at, in order to make the finished creation appear effortless and as natural as possible. Different varieties carry different perfumes and florists are adept at matching complementing scents within a bouquet. The same applies to the overall look of an arrangement, as certain flowers blend well with others to create a stunning impact.

Flowers convey many symbolic messages understood by florists and skilled florists work hard to create the perfect message with the arrangement for every occasion. Funerals, weddings, christenings and births are all occasions that merit many flowers, as they are used to celebrate life in its many forms, be it at the beginning or end of the journey.

Poppies are used to commemorate death, particularly as a symbol for those soldiers who were lost at war and irises and lilies symbolise resurrection and life and hence are common at burials. The opening of their petals is associated with stars and the sun shining down to light the way forward.

Spring sees the daisy springing to life and as such is associated with new life and innocence and can be seen at christenings. Brides more often than not carry roses in their bridal bouquet, the flower of love, passion and beauty. Valentine's Day sees more flower delivery vans carrying roses than at any other time in the year, with men giving them to their ladies to symbolise their femininity.

Other occasions when flowers are commonly on show include Christmas and Easter, Mothers' Day and anniversaries. Birthdays, a new job or leaving your job, or a new home are all celebrated with flowers. For those languishing in bed recovering from illness, a bouquet or two of fresh flowers cheers up the sanitary atmosphere and demonstrates how well wishers hope for a quick recovery.

To suit individual taste there are several different basic designs, each of which can be modified to create stunning unique arrangements. Horizontal, vertical, triangular, crescent, oval, minimal, Hogarth's curve and free standing designs are amongst the most common designs used and the setting is often the guidance for the best method. Triangular designs are often bold and make good arrangements for ceremonies, whereas a more formal arrangement is offered by Hogarth's curve or an oval creation. Crescent shapes are often very artistic and ideal for coffee tables and horizontal designs fit well as a table centrepiece. For large spaces against walls or in corner, vertical arrangements can be quite spectacular.

No one can deny that a flower delivery from the local florists brightens up anyone's day, making you feel special and loved. And fresh flowers not only smell fragrant but give your house a sense of life and colour. They are definitely not just for insects.
