Find Out What Makes Bristol So Popular With Foodies

By Stephanie Keen

Bristol is a busy city in the south west of the UK that makes the ideal location for a fun holiday for individuals of all ages. The city has an obvious maritime feel due to its location on the Severn Estuary and its historic floating harbour, designed by the famous Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

In recent years the growth in the quantity of fine quality restaurants and cafes have given the city it's reputation for fantastic cuisine.

When it comes to entertainment and activities, in and around the city, you would have a hard job running out of things to do. There are excellent shopping facilities, several large theatres, a planetarium and even a zoo!

In the cities eateries there remains evidence of the wonderful exotic foods and spices received by the city's port for several centuries gone by.

When you start to sample great cuisine in the cities eateries you will soon know why this area is such a haven for food lovers. You will be spoilt for choice with the huge variety of culinary styles and flavours available to you with something to suit all tastes. Choose from Portuguese, Chinese, Nigerian, Thai, or Indonesian the list is seemingly endless.

The oldest market in Bristol is St Nicholas which is a great base for a meal and some shopping. You will normally find a wide selection of local produce here, combined with exotic specialties. If you have not experienced a cream tea, then look out for the signs and try it out. Homemade scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam are a tradition. Whilst a cream tea is not great for the waistline, it has to be done.

Some other great specialities produced in the region include some fine quality cheddars and the Exmoor blue cheese. A large percentage of the UK's finest meats and dairy produce come from this excellent agricultural area.

There are several farms in this area of the country producing excellent ciders and you might get the chance to taste some of the regions famous cider brandy, although, be warned, it is said to be rather strong! By having the chance to buy direct from producers through local farm shops and markets, you are able to learn facts about the way it was farmed too.

Bristol is inexpensive for eating out and accommodation, particularly in comparison to neighbouring destinations. Why not visit and see what all the full is about for yourself?
